JUST TOUCHED DOWN IN LONDON TOWN

i'd like to think i'm the wanderer, the vagabond, the nomadic.

first stop was london, one of my favorite cities.  this was my first time back to the city in several years and the first time visiting with friends instead of family.  some of the group had never been to london so we saw the main sights...which are just as amazing the second/third/fourth time around.  i love the mix of the old and the new you get with london.  it blends together so nicely and almost nothing seems out of place.  the gloom of the clouds feels right and adds more charm to the city.  london in the sun is, in my opinion, a bit weird and false.

the tate modern is my favorite museum in london and one of my top 5 favorite museums in the world.  i could spend hours there; unfortunately, we got there too late in the day and only had time for a quick recharge at the cafe and about thirty minutes of rushing through the exhibits.  not the best way to see the tate but at least i got to go, even if it was only for a few minutes.

camden lock is sensory overload.  tons of people, tons of smells, tons of shops, tons of crap, and...if you look just right, a ton of inspiration.  we spent a few hours up there one afternoon and enjoyed ourselves quite a lot.  if anyone can tell me what the deal is with all of the horses that would be amazing, we couldn't figure it out.  it reminded me of a british venice beach, ca without the beach - the tourist trap stores, tattoo parlors, and diverse crowd.  it is definitely a place to see if you haven't but i won't be rushing back anytime soon.

saturday night started when we discovered that marks & spencer offers mix drinks in a can!  is this a joke?!  gin & tonics, vodka tonics, pina coladas, etc...absolutely amazing.  after some five hour energies we were ready to explore london at night.  went to east london / shoreditch (?) area and found ourselves at prague bar.  fun little place to have some drinks and fun conversations.  were forced to find a new place when last call happened as midnight?!?!  we definitely were not aware that some places shut down so early in london, we were in desperate need of a local to know where and when to go...we struggled with finding places that were serving drinks pretty much every night...tourists.  after prague bar we hopped over to hoxton pony for more drinks and lots of dancing.  when it started to shut down we decided against going to late late night clubs and hopped on a random night bus to nowhere, tried to go to a karaoke bar (which was obviously closed), and ended up in this random apartment/taxi service waiting for a cab back to the hotel.  all in all it was a super fun night.

delicious sunday dinner at the prince regent up by covent garden.  was absolutely delicious and a drink with pimms made it pretty much perfection.

from taking the bus in the wrong direction for almost an hour, struggling to find a place serving booze, and falling not only asleep but also out of chairs at starbucks, london was full of laughter and good times. it is an amazing city full of diversity and is definitely on my list of places where i would love to live full-time.
