DEAN ISIDRO

sorry for the absence...life got in the way

so i know that christmas was, what, three days ago, but i'm already making my list to santa for next year.  number one on that list is to be in a dean isidro video.  dean is one of my favorites at the moment and his talent is undeniable.  his photography is great but i LOVE his cinematography!  everything comes together so perfectly - the location, music, model, lighting, etc. - i currently can't get enough.

below are two of my favorites.

i've shared this video of sean o'pry set to the xx's "inifinity" before, i could watch it for days (is also how i first became aware of the xx - an amazing band i suggest you get involved with).

this is the latest dean video i have seen, it is of noah mills for calzedonia.  it is also stunning.

soooo...you get on the scheduling of some beach video shoot starring me done by dean isidro and i will hit the gym to get rid of the few extra pounds i've gained by gorging myself with delicious holiday treats and drinks.  the outcome should be quite nice, thanks in advance - it'll probably be my favorite gift ever!

COMPANY HOLIDAY PARTY

growing up i always thought one was supposed to dread going to their company holiday party.

i thought wrong.

my company's annual holiday party is one of my favorite nights of the year and this year's was no different.  my roommate, who i haven't seen since europe, came back for the weekend to be my plus one which made the night that much better.  a lot of former employees come back specifically for the party which illustrates just how much fun it is.

here are several absolutes about the annual party:

1. good music.  this year it was the white pandas, we've had girltalk previous years
2. free food & booze (booze paid for by work tastes best)
3. friends friends friends
4. crazy dancing (sometimes on stage)
5. photo booths
6. hot messes, and i mean hot messes!
7. hilarious stories for monday (did you see that girl doing splits in her dress on stage?)

CHANEL BYZANTIUM

i'm a sucker for chanel's resort and pre-fall collections.  i love how the theme is done to perfection while also maintaining the chanel aesthetic.  without being told one can immediately tell what the theme is and that karl and team are behind it.  pre-fall 2011 is no exception.  i'm loving the opulence of the byzantium theme and it just makes me want to go to istanbul even more so.  it was also nice to see the house go for a more intimate presentation, in the rue cambon second floor couture salon, after the grandness of the spring show.

below are two of my favorite looks that i actually wouldn't mind rocking myself.  the jewel-toned pants in what looks like a large wale cord are stunning.

love.  love.  love.

go to www.style.com to see better photos, they're not showing up that well here and you must see how beautiful the looks truly are.

CABLE KNIT

last night i went to my first holiday party of the season and decided to pull out some winter classics that would keep me warm and look somewhat festive.  this sweater was actually a good six inches longer, which made it look like i needed to wear leggings instead of jeans; however, with a couple of strategically placed safety pins i was able to get it to the perfect length.

MJOLK

i am absolutely in love with pretty much every piece from mjolk's spring 2011 presentation, i mean love.

the colors, pattern, proportions, styling, everything about their spring look book is just put together so well.

this look book is my first introduction to the brand, saw it on www.thefashionisto.com, and i believe that this is the start of quite the love affair.

THE METAL & ACETATE ANDREA

stunning

my eyesight is fine and i haven't worn glasses since 7th grade (it got better?); however, on monday i'm scheduling an appointment with an optometrist and doing whatever it takes to walk out of there with a prescription for lenses so i can get these.

obsessing.

check out super's other great new releases for winter at their blog.

THANKSGIVING

all too often i get caught up in the bullshit of my life where my biggest problem is not being able to find a new pair of boots i love.  it can be quite pathetic and that is why i am thankful for thanksgiving.  thanksgiving is a time to come together with family and friends to enjoy one another's company over a ridiculously large meal.  i've always wondered why tradition states you have to gorge yourself to the point of food coma on this last thursday in november and as i've become older i think i'm starting to figure it all out.  preparing a meal or a dish for someone is to show them love.  whether it be your mother who is in the kitchen from 8 in the morning until dinner at 5 or a group of friends all making their own dish for a potluck "friends-giving" away from family, love is in the food.  we are all excited to make something delicious that others will enjoy and which will make them happy.  we put in the effort because we care, we put in the effort because we love.  hours, if not days, of prep go into a thanksgiving dinner and it takes hours to eat it all.  we pile our plates with a crazy amount of food and enjoy ourselves to the point of bursting.  afterwards it takes hours to digest it all so we can actually move again.  the theme throughout the day, in the prep, in the eating, and in the digesting, is time.  time spent sharing recipes from one generation to the next while cooking in the kitchen.  time spent going around the table expressing what each individual is thankful for.  time spent playing games, watching a movie, or just talking and laughing as we make it through our food-comas.  time is a limited resource and a day set aside solely for spending time with others is exactly what we all need.  everything is now now now and we too often forget that what is actually important now are the individuals around us that make us happy.  the individuals around us who make us who we are.  so on this thanksgiving i hope you were able to spend the day with those you love.  those that i love are what i am most thankful for on this day and every day.

happy thanksgiving

BRENDAN JAMES

last week i had the amazing chance to see my favorite new artist, brendan james, live.  it was quite possibly my favorite concert i have ever been to.  the performance was at a small bar late on a monday night so there were not that many people in the audience.  this made for a very intimate environment with everyone pretty much everyone having front-row seats.  it felt like we were over at brendan's house and he was entertaining us by sitting at his piano and playing a few of his songs.  it was amazing to not only hear some of my new favorite songs being played live (which i would argue sounded better than the CD) but also to hear the stories and meanings behind them.  his passion for what he does was palpable and quite inspiring to me.

after the show i was able to meet brendan which was pretty exciting.  i've been listening to his music pretty exclusively over the past few weeks so it was a bit surreal to shake his hand, get a photo, and talk with him face-to-face for a few minutes.  he was such a nice guy and the whole night just solidified why i am such a big fan of his.

go to itunes now and buy his music.
go to his website now (www.brendanjames.com) and find out when you can see him live.
go fall in love.

LANVIN + H&M VERSION 2.0

remember a few posts back when i was talking about how excited i was for the h&m / lanvin collaboration yet how sad i was that it probably wouldn't be offered at my local h&m?  well, i thought wrong!  when i saw my h&m on the list of stores carrying the collection i had a mild (major) freak-out.  i've been counting down the days and today was finally the day for the release.

i actually think i was in one of the best locations for trying to get ahold of a lot of items on my shopping list.  i'm not in a huge city and thus didn't expect a lot of people to know about the collaboration.  i was pretty sure it wasn't going to be a shit show like it would be in nyc, chicago, or l.a. and so i had a target arrival time of about 7am for the 8am opening.  my friend and i arrived at about 6:45am and were 15 or so back from the front.  unlike some customers in other cities we had the pleasure of waiting in a heated mall so we took a seat and waited.

this nice lady next to me was actually shopping for her daughter who lives in nyc!  smart daughter to ask her mother to shop somewhere else so she could avoid the havoc in nyc (where people were lining up, OUTSIDE, the night before!!!).  it was amazing mother to get up so early and shop for her daughter.  she was so cute showing me photos of everything she was supposed to get and in what sizes.

i was super impressed that they had catered coffee and croissants available!  such a nice touch h&m, thank you!

where's waldo?

nope, a mime!  what the hell?  he just popped up out of nowhere and was super creepy until we all realized he was there to entertain us, which he did, and control the line.  he actually made the wait go by very quickly, which was greatly appreciated at 7am on a saturday morning.

we also got these lanvin <3 h&m with a black linen scarf inside.  these actually turned out to be quite helpful as i threw my wallet, keys, phone, camera, etc into it and was able to shop with two free hands.  i am super impressed with how thorough the whole waiting in line experience was, i appreciate h&m taking the time (and spending the money) to ensure the customers had an enjoyable experience from start to finish.

8am came and it was a mad dash up the in-store escalators to the men's section!  there were not a lot of guys there but there were enough for the sunglasses to go before i could even see/remember them (which was probably good because had i seen them in someone's hands other than my own i would have choke-slammed them to the floor and stole them)!  i pretty much grabbed two sizes of everything that i wanted and headed to the dressing room.  it is only at this point that i remembered the sunglasses and freaked out that i didn't get them; however, the sales staff quickly got me on the wait-list.  i'm #3 for the two pairs used in the front window and hope hope hope that the girls ahead of me screw up so i can get a pair.  the sunglasses and the white tuxedo blazer (which my store didn't have) were the only two things i wanted and didn't get.  i actually got some things i had not planned on and am super excited with all of my new clothes!

you could not get away from the damn mime!

i want to rip the sunglasses off this guy!

some trick wearing my sunglasses.

as soon as we got home i had to try the clothes on again and take advantage of the fact that i had someone to take my picture.

tiger t-shirt with bejeweled eyes.

all-over leopard / graphic print t-shirt.

tuxedo shirt.

navy silk bow-tie.

thinking about how sad i am i don't have the sunglasses.

graphic bow-tie.

school boy blazer.

tuxedo jacket.

the attention to detail was impeccable.  i love the boxes the accessories came in, the garment bags, the shopping bags, as well as the hangers that we got to keep.

the whole morning was a ton of fun and totally worth the 6am saturday alarm.  i came away with a lot of great things and can't wait to wear them!
