FALLING WHISTLES

the other week one of my favorite clothing stores in town, brigade, hosted an event to bring awareness to an amazing organization - falling whistles.  falling whistles was started a few years ago after one of the founders, sean carasso, spent some time in the democratic republic of the congo after partaking in tom's first shoe-drop in africa.  what started out as an online journal to share the horrible stories of child warfare with family and friends has become a bona fide movement.

supporters of the falling whistles movement purchase whistles to signify that they are a whistleblower for peace.  the whistle is also symbolic as young boys are sent to the front lines armed only with a whistle for the sole purpose of making noise to scare the enemy, only to fall as the first round of bullets are fired.

words can no describe how amazing of an individual sean is.  i was fortunate enough to be able to talk with him for a few minutes and the passion he has for this cause is infectuous.

the story is heartbreaking but one that needs to be told.  i won't be able to tell it as well as the individuals behind the organization so urge you to visit their website to learn more about the movement.
