VODKA ICE CREAM

earlier this week i went to a party for the launch of a new jeni's ice cream flavor featuring middle west spirits' oyo vodka!

i'm a huge fan of middle west spirits for three reasons.  first and foremost it is owned by some of my friends.  two, the recipes they use come from one of the owner's grandmother's moonshining days!  three, their oyo (pronounced oh-why-oh) vodka is the best tasting vodka i have ever had.  this is saying something considering i hate vodka - the taste is not for me and it always takes me back to the days of taking shots in college dorm rooms before going out for the night.  however, oyo vodka is amazing, i can  enjoy it straight on the rocks.  i've done an oyo vodka vs grey goose vodka taste test at the distillery and was speechless with how different the two are!  i, like many others, used to think that grey goose was the mercedes of vodkas; tasting it right after tasting oyo vodka showed me how wrong i was.  oyo is the clear winner.  i recommend you do whatever you can to get your hand on a bottle (or two or three or four).  the oyo vanilla vodka drops december 1st which means i will be getting a bottle of oyo vanilla vodka on december 1st.  i also hear that a whiskey is in the works as well...

jeni's is a local ice cream shop that produces the world's best ice cream.  like vodka, i am not a huge fan of ice cream; however, i could eat my weight in jeni's ice cream.  with amazing flavors like pear riesling, cherry lambic, cucumber sake, and so on and so on, there is something for everyone (yes they also have amazing vanilla and chocolate as well).  jeni's started out as a stand in the north market and has now blossomed into several locations around town and a booming mail order business.  in the summer, no matter what time of day, you have to wait 15 to 30 minutes in line at every location.  i, like everyone else in this city, can not get enough of it.  jeni is a legend in my books!  i am sure you will hear more about her in the near future.  if you knew what was good for you you'd hop on over to her website to order yourself some ice cream.  once you try it no other ice cream will ever taste the same.

which brings us to the reason to celebrate - the introduction of a new fall flavor (jeni's has seasonal flavors that rotate depending upon what is fresh and in season): oakvale gouda with oyo vodka plumped cranberries.  it is delicious!  combine my favorite vodka with my favorite ice cream shop and i'm a happy man.

one of many cups of the ice cream i enjoyed.

i love that even though the building is a functioning distillery beautiful design is everywhere you look.

do i know what oyo vodka tastes like?  yes.  will this stop me from having a sample?  no!

you can't see it but that poster let's people know that oyo vodka placed 7th in a worldwide vodka competition!  not too shabby for a distillery that hasn't even been opened a full calendar year!  go middle west spirits!

the night was also a great excuse to wear my louis vuitton shoes i got in paris.
